You will be surprised that every third girl or women you talk to complains that she has got PCOS. Well, this is true. PCOS is rising more and more and modern medicines does not have much to offer for a permanent cure. Then, women turns to natural ways- Ayurveda. What you know as Poly-cystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) , is an imbalance in Agni (digestion & metabolism) and body bio-energies (doshas). The oldest science in the world- Ayurveda has documented many conditions which are now explained by the modern doctors contributing to PCOS. Dr. Vibhuti Rao explains 5 best ways to battle with PCOS symptoms effectively. Read further.

We still do not know the cause and cure for PCOS in the current medical system. Although no single disease explained in Ayurvedic text books perfectly correlate with the modern concept of PCOS, our ancient scholars have given various descriptions of the possible diseases which can closely stand with the modern point of view of PCOS. A regular menstrual cycle is an indicator of women’s health in Ayurveda. Ayurvedic medicines safe and effective in corrective various menstrual related problems and used extensively worldwide.  Majority of the female related problems are due to an imbalance in Vata dosha which further vitiates Pitta and Kapha Dosha. This imbalance can thoroughly diagnose by a qualified Ayurvedic doctor. So pay a visit to one of the best. However, the following information can be a good guide for you to understand the Ayurvedic management of PCOS. Let me now explain to you the 5 easy ways to manage PCOS symptoms effectively.

1. Understand the imbalance in you
First of all, you need to put different lenses and try to understand your symptoms and its course of manifestation in terms of Ayurvedic fundamentals. Such as is the foundation of ‘Dosha’ principle in diagnosing and treating a disease. According to Ayurveda, PCOS is not a single disease but a group of disorders which involves an imbalance between all the tri-doshas, dhatu (structural entities), Agni (digestion & metabolism) and Mala (elimination). PCOS occurs when Kapha blocks the other two doshas, Vata, and pitta. Thus, all three doshas play an important & distinctive role in the production, development, maturation & release of ovum & therefore the ovarian cycle & menstrual cycle is under control of three doshas. Thus, it can be stated that Kapha predominance manifests as obesity, subfertility, hirsutism, diabetic tendencies and hypothermia. Pitta predominance manifests as alopecia, acne, dysmenorrhea with clots and cardiovascular disorders whereas Vata predominance manifests with dysmenorrhea, oligomenorrhea, and severe menstrual irregularity.

 2. Set a routine – help your biological clock
The very next thing you need to do is plan your routine in such a way that you do not put an extra burden on yourself in regards to healthy lifestyle. The truth about our current lifestyle is that we all seek just a quick fix to our problems. We actually do not bother to look into the cause. We are dependent for our health on others. We blindly pick up stuff from shops, which claim to be organic and healthy. We are happy with the fast food and instant cooking as long as it is convenient and tasty. But at many times convenience is causing a lot of damage to us. We very well know that healthy lifestyle is the key to maintaining weight and manage PCOS symptoms. I am not asking to follow a strict routine which you never did before. Just simple things such as eating when hungry can make a lot of difference. Also, waking up the same time and sleeping every day the same time alone would help your hormones to set right.

3. Avoid Ama formation-
Ama is nothing but the toxic material present at all cellular levels of digestion, metabolism, absorption and elimination process. Lack of physical activity, day sleep and faulty food habits like eating incompatible foods, untimely, in less or excess amount, without digesting the previous foods, foods leads to vitiation of belly fire (Jatharagni)and leads to the production of Ama which starts the pathogenesis of many metabolic problems.

4. Go for the seasonal Panchakarma (Detox)
Seasonal detox in Ayurveda is suggested to maintain health and well-being of an individual. Prepare yourself for unique natural cleansing procedures. Panchakarma is five various methods of body cleansing and removing aggravating dosha’s out. It will require may be an admission to the Ayurveda hospital or frequent visit if you do not want an admission. So choose a clinic which is near to your house and have all the facilities to offer you these cleansing procedures.

5. Follow Yogic tradition

PCOS requires a holistic mind-body approach. Thus the involvement of the sister science of Ayurveda- Yoga, is must for a holistic health for a balanced mind, rather than just focusing on symptoms based outcomes.   A study suggested that daily yoga for 30 minutes with 4 Asanas, 4 Pranayama, meditation and Shavasana helps in weight reduction and stress management which ultimately stabilize the normal function of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis and cure PCOS. So what you are waiting for, get into your yoga pants and get moving.

Final Words:
Having periods and periods related problems were born with women even centuries ago. And their solutions were present as well. It is only recently English medical system are claiming to discover something like PCOS. No need to worry about this new disease. You can very well manage it with Ayurvedic medicines.
Namaskara,
Vaidya Vibhuti Rao
